What is Better
“One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.” Psalms 27:4
My heart cries out the same thing that David’s did thousands of years ago. I have found and seen that nothing in the heavens or on the earth is better than Him and His presence. My heart cries out what Moses’ did, “If your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” (Exodus 33:15) I cannot and will not go where He isn’t. And I know that He knows I am writing this, so even now I tell Him, “If your presence does not go with us, do not send us.”
In Luke 10:38-42 we see a very special moment between Mary, Martha, and Jesus. We see one who is busy; busy doing good things. And then we see another, who is so taken and captivated by her Savior that she cannot be pulled away from His feet. Despite Martha attempting to bring correction to her sister, Jesus proclaims that Mary has done, “what is better.”
The question I would like to pose to you is this, “what is the chief desire of your heart?” Is it Him and His presence? Like I shared in the last post, this last year has been one of miracles. There have literally been times where I cannot believe what my own eyes are seeing. Yet, there is nothing, nothing at all that fills me like His heart and presence does. His presence and person move and fill me in a way that nothing else can.
It can be easy to fall into the trap of choosing good activity that lacks His substance. Activity without His substance is frighteningly close to being empty movement and noise. This activity is not bad, it is just not what it could be. Once we taste of Him, nothing else will satisfy except more and more of Him.
Although this post is short, it is very full. The most important message is still the same that it has always been. Nothing will satisfy but Him. Yes, we will be a people that embrace the freedom and power of our wonderful God. But no, we will not choose to worship the gifts and benefits of God. We know and pursue Him as the treasure and the great first love of our hearts.
My prayer for you is that you know our amazing God in His fullness. That even now your heart is drawn to your prayer closet to wait upon Him, to worship Him in His presence, and to hear His voice. There is no other who fills, no other who satisfies except Jesus the wonderful lover of our souls. And yes, even now, He wants to meet with you and fill you.
Holy Spirit come.
